Oasis
Alliances
and colonial principles lead the fightings to North Africa, between
the Italian controlled Libya and Britannic Egypt.
From 1940, harbours
and oases became strategic. Tobrouk, one of the few Libyan harbours,
saw many battles between Allies and Africakorps.
Aridity, scarce resources, vast landscapes were the key problems
in this desert war. Equipment had to be adapted: mobile weapons
(as the Pak 40 gun), all-terrain vehicles, camouflage.
Bongoboy, Splash Damage designer, will share some commentaries
on the creation of the Oasis map: inspiration ranging from Karnak
to
the movie Lawrence of Arabia....
