German heavy artillery in 1940 in France.

Manstein attacks on a 50 km long battle front. The artillery preparation is going on for 5 days, from the 2nd to the 5th of June. On June the 7th, Infantry is attacking, helped by the artillery which destroys the armoured points one by one. Against the courageous resistance of the Soviet, the German are heavily using flamethrowers (in order to burn and gas the defenders), grenades and explosives. Only 40 prisoners for 1000 men (!) from one of the armoured batteries : «Maxime Gorki».

Dora is used to reduce the coastal defences. It shoots from 25 km, that allows accurate gunneries. It destroys the «Molotov» battery with only 7 shells on the 8th of June. It also destroys a submarine ammunition stock, which was ploughed under 30 meters of chalk, with again 7 shells. By this way, Dora pulverizes 7 targets. The gun becomes silent on the 17 th of June, it has shot 47 shells (for more than 500.000 shells on the fortress).
Indeed on June the 17th, the gap is open, the Germans take hold of five strongholds (from which Maxime Gorki). The last defenders are supplied by a few submarines and swift vedettes. The 28th and the 29th of June, the Germans accomplish an amphiby raid in the city and install a bridge's head.
Staline, who has ordered to resist until the last blood drop, empowers a re-embarquement but the Germans are the sky's masters. The Black Sea's float attempts a «little Dunkerque» without a great success. Many defenders suicide themselves (or are being suicided !).

Von Manstein announces a total victory, 90 000 prisoners (with the battle of Crimea which has passed off before, not only the fortress), 467 guns and 758 mortars. We don't know how many soldiers the Germans have lost. After this battle, Hitler promotes Manstein as Marshal.
